At Fort Myers Vein Specialists, we understand how nerve-wracking you may be for your first visit. We are here to guide you every step of the way…it’s what we love to do! We’ve put together a few steps on what to expect during your first visit. Our goal is to make your experience positive and prepare you as much as possible! Let’s dive right in.
Step 1
My friendly staff will greet you and ask to see copies of your driver’s license and insurance cards.
Step 2
If you didn’t download the paperwork from our website and fill it out, you’ll need to fill out your medical history and provide us with names of medications you’re taking, and read/sign some disclosures. There are also consents there to read as well.
Step 3
Come in loose-fitting shorts or a skirt (if you are female) or bring loose shorts with you to change into. We need to see your legs completely to do a thorough evaluation.
Step 4
Expect to spend an hour or so, because you’ll meet with me and likely have an ultrasound to help us determine what’s happening with your veins under the skin and inside your muscles. It’s all the veins that you DON’T SEE that typically cause pain, swelling, cramping, heaviness, fatigue, or restless legs.
We try to provide patients an answer to the questions they have the first time we see them.
Once we have met with you and completed a US/Reflux Study we will be able to discuss whether your veins are having significant problems in your legs. We can also discuss other possible causes of your discomfort, cramping, or swelling.
Remember, our first goal is to improve your quality of life. That doesn’t always mean we have to do procedures. Sometimes people choose to try conservative treatments including compression stockings, daily exercise including walking, elevation, and venous supplements. We encourage everyone to try these measures and see if they improve their quality of life.
Let us know if you, a family member, or a friend may need our help. We would be happy to sit down with you and figure out what YOU need.
